5 reasons why i chose to study on the program -
1/ To Extend my knowledge on graphic design in general, i felt this course would benefit to me as it covers many areas in the graphic design industry and as i did not know much about the subject before the course, i felt i needed to learn quickly so i could get stuck in asap.
2/ Good reputation , in my foundation we were introduced to DNAD and were informed that LCAD,GD had won it on several occasions , and why would you turn down an offer to a course like that?
3/ There is no messing about, i was also told by my foundation tutors that the course was very full on, challenging and this is what i wanted, i knew if i went on a university course it would be easier , but i would be one step behind the students studying at LCAD in skills, portfolio and knowledge.
4/ A packed timetable, we were told by a past LCAD,GD student that the course was very time consuming, i wanted to keep busy and have new challenges on the regular, and i knew this course would be perfect for this.
5/ LEEDS, out of all the uni's i had visited, Leeds was my favorite, it has a great vibe , didn't seem too big , full of students and not too far away from where i live 'manchester' .
5 things i want to learn during my time on the program -
1/ I want to expand my knowledge on the different printing processes , especially screen printing.
2/ Time management , i need to learn how to work to a time limit and without leaving things until the last minute.
3/ Kerning and Typography , i am a little rusty on generating typefaces to scale and my kerning could be improved.
4/ INDESIGN , I would like to extend my indesign skills , i get a little confused at the complicated layout options
5/ Designing for print , my designing is ok on screen , but when printed i am always disappointed , my knowledge on colour, stock , scale and layout can certainly be improved.
5 skills that are my strengths -
1/ Passion - i love graphic design and am very driven into learning more and more everyday
2/ Work ethic - i always have time for graphic design, and feel much better when my work is done and i can move onto the next thing.
3/ Eye for colour combinations - i am interested in colour and have a good eye for which pantone colours go with which.
4/ IDEAS - i have a great thinking cap when it comes to group work and love having a brief which i can modify and generate myself.
5/ Peoples person - i am great in group work because i can be quite vocal and am not frightened in airing my own opinion.
5 Things i want to improve -
1/ TIME MANAGEMENT - an obvious improvement but I need to learn how to not leave things until the last minute!!!!!!!
2/ ORGANIZATION - To manage one task at a time , keep on top of my work and not put things off , ESPECIALLY CTS, also keeping my notes in separate files and books will help.
3/ DC BLOG , look for inspiration everyday , and make my design context blog full to the brim!
4/ READ MORE , i have lots of interesting graphics books and magazines sitting on my shelf, i should get stuck in , instead of flicking through and focussing on the just the images.
5/ DESKTOP - My mac desktop is messy and has files scattered all over it, i want to make myself put things in organized files and date my work more often so i can at least see the screens background!
5 Ways i will evaluate my progress -
1/ Post on PPD regularly
2/ Recognize a weakness, note it down , and improve/work on it straight away
3/ Keep a small notebook of to-do's , tick them off and post it on blog
4/ Comparisons , comparing my past work with up to date work and spotting out the differences and improvements
5/ Time diary, creating a personal calender or timetable to improve on my general management , and post it onto blog
